Understanding Hair Transplantation:
Hair transplantation is a surgical treatment that involves transferring hair follicles from one place of the body to another (usually the back or sides of the head, where hair is resistant to balding) where hair has thinned or been lost. This treatment is usually used to treat male pattern baldness but it can also benefit ladies with thinning hair or those having hair loss as a result of an injury or medical condition.
The Hair Transplant Process:
Consultation: A consultation with a trained hair transplant specialist is the first step in the process. Your doctor will analyze your hair loss, discuss your objectives and expectations and determine if you are a good candidate for the surgery during this meeting.
Donor Area Selection: The donor area is where healthy hair follicles will be removed from your head. This location was chosen because of its hereditary resistance to baldness, assuring that the transplanted hair will grow spontaneously.
Hair Follicle Extraction: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are the two main procedures for extracting hair follicles. FUT involves removing a strip of skin from the donor area, whereas FUE involves removing individual follicles. FUE is more often used since it causes less scarring and allows for a faster recovery.
