Purposes of Hymenoplasty Surgery
Cultural and Religious Reasons: An intact hymen is symbolic of virginity in various cultures and faiths and its rupture can have serious social and familial ramifications. For cultural or religious reasons hymenoplasty is used to restore the hymen.
Personal Choice: Some women choose hymenoplasty to recover control of their bodies while still upholding personal values and beliefs.
Trauma or Injury: Hymenoplasty is also a possibility for women who have suffered hymen damage as a result of an accident or sexual assault and want to restore the hymen’s integrity.
The Hymenoplasty Procedure:
Consultation: The procedure starts with a consultation with an experienced surgeon. You will explain your motives and goals for the procedure during this session and your surgeon will examine your suitability for hymenoplasty.
Anesthesia: To guarantee minimal discomfort during the treatment hymenoplasty is often performed under local anaesthetic.
Hymen Repair: The hymen will be meticulously rebuilt by the surgeon using tissue from the vaginal lining. The goal of this reconstruction is to mimic the look and suppleness of the original hymen.
Suturing: To close the wounds, tiny dissolvable sutures are employed, which will dissolve spontaneously over time.
Recovery: Patients are usually able to resume normal activities within a few days of their surgery. Sexual activity should be avoided for a set length of time to allow for proper healing.
